Product Details
This exercise uses the drama of a soccer penalty kick to introduce one of game theory’s most important ideas: mixed-strategy Nash equilibrium. Students analyze strategic interactions between an attacker and a goalkeeper, first in a simple setting and then in a more realistic scenario with multiple choices and differing success rates. As they develop strategies that compete directly against those submitted by their peers, participants gain hands-on experience with strategic thinking, randomization, and decision-making under uncertainty. Ideal for courses in game theory, analytics, strategy, operations, or managerial decision-making, this exercise combines the excitement of sport with rigorous analytical thinking, helping students discover why unpredictability can be the key to success.
